Valuing Older People - The Mayor's Older People's Strategy

Richard Wilson, Actor Shu Pao Lim, LOPSG Committee Member

The Greater London Authority published an older people's strategy on Monday 18 September 2006. To mark the one year anniversary of publication, the GLA published an annual report and updated action plan in September 2007. Both documents are available to download from the GLA website

The strategy focused on four priority areas:

  • Challenging negative perceptions and promoting the contribution of older people
  • Taking action on pensions and income
  • Promoting good quality health and social care
  • Supporting those valuable community services which can make so much difference to older people's lives

LOPSG is looking forward to working with the new Mayor to see how this work can be taken forward, and will keep member groups informed of developments.

European Launch of the Strategy, October 2006

In October 2006 three older performers from Entelechy Arts devised a play to illustrate the Mayor of London’s Older People’s Strategy to members of the European Parliament in Brussels.
